Get ready to be amazed by the Hugh Leatherman Terminal construction project for the South Carolina Port Authority! This impressive feat of vertical construction includes a whopping 17 buildings and canopies, totaling over 100,000 square feet! And get this – it’s all situated on a massive 286-acre site next to the Cooper River.

Why is this project so special? Well, for starters, it’s the first new port terminal in the United States since 2009. And let’s talk about those building materials – most of the site is made up of thick stone, some of which is up to 10 feet thick!

But the real kicker? Many of the building foundations had to have a moat dug around them to handle all that water (both ground and tidal) due to the unsuitable soils. And get this – some piles were over 90 feet long!

We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty impressed by this project. It’s a true work of art – er, engineering.

I can honestly say in my nearly 40 years of experience, I have never seen such professionalism, teamwork, innovation, and collaboration exhibited on a construction project….Samet’s efforts resulted in the on-time delivery of all the buildings, canopies, booths, and associated work, and provided for cost efficient solutions that enabled the SCPA to complete the entire project on budget.
