Paul Norcross, co-founder of Phoenix Academy, said the school intends to invest a total of $13 million in the new campus on a 42-acre parcel on Clinard Farms Road plus improvements to its existing campus at Mendhenhall Business Park, which will continue to serve lower grades. The ground-breaking will likely take place this fall, Norcross said.

Sheetz broke ground on its new distribution center in Burlington on Thursday morning.

Sheetz President and CEO, Stan Sheetz, Executive Vice President of Sheetz Distribution Services, Ray Ryan and the new Sheetz Director of the Burlington Distribution Center, Frank Scott, joined Alamance County Chamber of Commerce President, Mac Williams, several Alamance County and City of Burlington officials as part of the official ceremony.

...Samet Corporation will oversee management of the $32.8 million construction project. Altogether, the project will cost about $52 million. When completed, the structure will house 250,000 square-feet of space and create an estimated 254 jobs by the end of 2018.

The $32.8 million project has been heavily anticipated for about a year, but Sheetz leaders said Thursday that it had been on the company’s horizon for much longer than that.....Initially, though, the 44-acre site will house a Sheetz Bros. Kitchen bakery and distribution and warehousing center for the Sheetz distribution fleet, and serve as a main terminal for CLI Transport, Sheetz’ fuel carrier. "Brian Hall of Samet Corporation made a presentation to the Mebane City Council Monday night at its regular meeting requesting a shared participation in the extension of utility services to phase two of the North Carolina Industrial Center.

Hall told the council that the first new business in the phase two area of the park was progressing toward occupancy. Ferraro Foods' construction of its new facility nears completion."

The new plant will be located in an existing 130,000-square-foot facility on Glen Raven Road that was formerly operated as Glen Raven’s Ultra Spun division. The facility will be equipped with the latest in automated yarn manufacturing systems and configured around a manufacturing model engineered to support high levels of flexibility and customization."

As Student Housing Booms, Builders Eye Opportunities

"...The lure of student housing for builders is pretty basic: As college enrollment has exploded—jumping 38% to 20.4 million from 1999 to 2009, according to the Institute of Education Sciences and the U.S. Census Bureau—and as kids stay in college longer to graduate, the need for on- and near-campus housing has never been greater. “Student housing is one of the few sectors with a pulse,” observes Ken Grube, education group manager for Samet Corp., a Greensboro, N.C.-based multifamily builder.

Among the industry’s 50 largest multifamily builders, Samet is one of the 11 that include student housing in their construction activities. Another is Charlotte, N.C.-based Campus Crest Communities, which started building student housing in 2004 and ended last year with 33 operating properties near campuses across the country, from which it generated nearly $95 million in revenue...."
