Glen Raven HQ
TsAO & McKOWN
Glen Raven Fabrics, Inc. chose to restore and renovate a piece of its company for its global headquarters—the very first Glen Raven plant built in 1900. This original brick and timber building in Alamance County (currently completing construction) is giving new life to the mill with a design aesthetic that marries both historic and contemporary interior design. A new 30-foot glass atrium, complete with a wide maple staircase, welcomes employees and visitors into the space with natural daylighting. Original tumbled brick was vapor-blasted to remove many years’ worth of paint and faces inward around the perimeter. An airy layout showcases open and private offices in and around the original timber beams. An interior atrium with 20-foot trees brings nature inside where unbricked arched windows were restore, preseving the historic feel of the building. Original face-nialed wooden flooring was taken up, nails were extracted, planks were made into tongue-and-groove, then reinstalled across the second floor. Glass-front conference rooms and open communal spaces offer transparent meeting spaces, or employees may opt for a more intimate gathering in the theater-style training room.
